On Tuesday Google announced their intention to have every appliance in your home as a potential accessory, or network of accessories for your phone.
The goal of the Android @ Home framework is to enable your Android device to function as a home automation controller.
Their plan is for the phone to be able to connect to wireless lighting products, bulbs and switches, thermostats, washing machines, game consoles, etc. They claim devices that can communicate with Android should all be available in stores by the end of the year.
Staying within the spirit of Google’s passion open source software, Google promised “It will be completely open for developers to explore and write their own applications.”
